Translating a Module in the Editor

In addition to creating a new module in any language, you can translate your existing modules directly in Deckspert.*

*Note: You can also translate via XML using the import/export feature. If you have a translation vendor, we recommend that process. See the next section for more information.

To translate within the Editor:

  1. Make a copy of your existing module
  2. Open the copied module’s settings
    1. Rename the module title in the desired language
    2. Select the corresponding language code from the language drop down. This will make all of the language strings (do we have glossary/hyperlink functionality here?) in the courseware appear in that language (menu titles, UI buttons, pop-up messages, etc.)
    3. Click SAVE.
  3. At this point, now that this is a copy of your original, you can immediately start replacing the text within your module’s decks and cards.  HOWEVER, it’s very helpful to have the original module open so you have a direct reference to the original content as you translate. Therefore, we suggest:
    1. Right click on your browser icon open it in a new window, and go to your Deckspert account and log in.
    2. Open the original module
    3. Now you have two screens open – one with your in-process translated module, and one with the module in its original language. Arrange the screens side-by-side, or if you have an external monitor, display one of the windows in the extra display.
    4. Now,  in your translation module you can go to a card, and overwrite the existing text by typing in or cutting and pasting* the translation – referring to the other window for the original text.

*If you have a document containing all of the translated content, you can easily cut and paste from your word document directly into the Module’s text field’s to replace the original text.
